Visa Photos 2026 — A 12-Country Guide

A 2026 visa photo is a portrait conforming to each country’s specific regulations, differing from Vietnamese CCCD photos in size, background, and face ratio. The US uses 5x5cm square photos, Schengen uses 3.5x4.5cm, the UK requires a gray background, and Japan uses 4.5x4.5cm squares. Get it wrong and your application gets returned.

This article compiles the visa photo requirements of the 12 countries most commonly visited by Vietnamese travelers. Information is updated from official sources at embassies and visa application centers (VFS, US Embassy, Immigration NZ).

Câu hỏi thường gặp

Còn thắc mắc?

Can I reuse the visa photo from my previous application?

+

No. Visa photos must be taken within the last 6 months. Using older photos will trigger biometric recognition software and lead to rejection.

Can I take visa photos with my phone?

+

Not recommended. Phone lenses have wide angles that distort facial features, and LED lights create uneven shadows. The US DS-160 system and Schengen VFS are very strict, and phone photos are often rejected.

What digital photo size does a US visa require?

+

DS-160 requires a square JPEG file between 600x600 and 1200x1200 pixels, up to 240KB, on a pure white background. Plus two 5x5cm printed photos at your interview.

Can I wear glasses for a Schengen visa photo?

+

No. Since 2021, all Schengen visas have banned glasses during photography, including prescription glasses. The reason: to avoid glare and eye obstruction that cause biometric errors.

Should I bring backup photos to a visa interview?

+

Yes. We recommend bringing 4-6 printed photos and a USB with digital files. Consular officers may request replacement photos if the online submission has issues.
